Grande Zoo. At the aquarium, species from a variety of habitats are exhibited. A 285,000 gallon shark tank
includes brown, sandtiger, blacktip and nurse sharks swimming alongside sea turtles and other species of
fish. It's a big favourite with kids.
Located across the plaza from the Albuquerque Aquarium, the Rio Grande Botanic Garden represents an
oasis in the desert. The Garden is situated on 20 developed acres, including a 10,000-square foot glass
conservatory. Desert plants and medicinal herbs are contained in the vast collection along with species
native to the Iberian peninsula, Africa and China.
The Rio Grande Zoo was founded in 1927 and to this day offers visitors the chance to encounter more that

landscaping provide recreated naturalistic habitats for the animals complete with trees, water features and
rockwork. Popular species include seals, lions, gorillas, elephants, monkeys and giraffes.
